Privacy Policy
How we handle your information
ECDataLab is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in California. This Privacy Policy describes how ECDataLab collects, uses, and protects personal information submitted through this website, in compliance with the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA).
What We Collect
We collect personal information only when you voluntarily provide it — for example, when you submit a program application or contact us via email. This may include your name, title, agency or organization, email address, phone number, and information about your agency's data environment and policy priorities.
Standard web server logs may capture anonymous technical data such as browser type and general geographic region.
Cookies & Analytics
This site uses Squarespace Analytics, which relies on non-essential cookies to recognize returning visitors and understand general site usage. These cookies are not placed until you actively accept them through the cookie banner shown on your first visit — you can review or change that choice at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" option available on the site. We do not use cookies for advertising, and analytics data is not shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
How We Use It
Information you submit is used solely to evaluate program applications, respond to inquiries, and communicate with you about ECDataLab programs and opportunities.
Information Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information with service providers who help us operate this website and evaluate applications — including our hosting provider (Squarespace) and scheduling tools — solely to the extent necessary for them to perform those services. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ECDataLab or others.
This website is hosted on Squarespace. Form submissions and scheduling links may be processed through Squarespace's and third-party scheduling infrastructure. Those platforms' own privacy policies govern data handled through their systems.
Do Not Track
Some browsers allow users to enable a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. This website does not currently respond to DNT signals, as no uniform standard for doing so has been established. Visitors can instead manage cookie preferences directly through this site's cookie banner, available on first visit and reopenable at any time via "Cookie Preferences."
Data Retention
Application and inquiry data is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to evaluate your submission, maintain program records, and fulfill any contractual obligations. You may request deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us.
California Residents
Under CalOPPA, California residents may request information about the personal data we collect and how it is used or shared. ECDataLab does not meet the thresholds required for coverage under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), which applies to for-profit businesses. To exercise your rights or ask questions about your data, contact us at info@ecdatalab.org.
Security
We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information submitted through this site. No method of electronic transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.
Updates
This policy will be reviewed at least annually. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above. Continued use of this site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
